Kylian Mbappe has thrown his weight behind Wesley Fofana after the Chelsea defender faced a torrent of vile abuse online following the team’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend.
The French superstar didn’t hesitate to call out the ugly side of social media, lending his voice to a growing chorus of support for his fellow countryman during a press conference.
“I found out about this 15 minutes ago. It’s pathetic – we’re going around in circles, nothing’s moving forward, nothing’s changing. It’s tough to think that in 2025, we’re back to square one. I support him, all the lads support him. We’re all with him. These aren’t just words – if he needs anything at all, we’re here for him,” assured Kylian Mbappe.
Chelsea didn’t hold back either, issuing a fiery statement condemning the vile attacks on Fofana. “Chelsea Football Club is appalled and disgusted by the recent rise in online racial abuse towards our players,” the club declared.
“The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated. Wes and all our players have our full support. We will work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action.”
The French Football Federation also chimed in, standing firmly with Fofana.
