Tensions soared after Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Elche on Sunday.

According to DAZN, Kylian Mbappe was reported to have muttered “Sucio Bastardo” (“dirty bastard”) at the referee three times after the final whistle. If these comments were heard and confirmed, the French striker could face a considerable suspension for verbally abusing an official.

The referee’s official match report admitted that Mbappe approached the officials, protesting about perceived injustices, but made no mention of any direct insults. As written by referee Francisco José Hernández Maeso: “In the 90th minute, player Kylian Mbappe Lottin was cautioned for openly protesting a decision I made once the match had ended, while we were still on the field.”

Mbappe hopes the incident will not be investigated further, as a ban would deprive Real Madrid of their top goalscorer.

The club and fans now anxiously await the league’s next steps, hoping for a quick resolution and minimum disruption as Real targets continued success in La Liga.
