France forward of Cameroonian descent Kylian Mbappe continued his brilliant form for Real Madrid on Wednesday night, scoring in the team’s 2-1 comeback win against RCD Mallorca.
After his goal, the former PSG star broke a 72-year-old record set by Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano in the 1953/54 season.
Di Stefano scored 27 goals in his first LaLiga campaign, a record Mbappe has now overtaken with 28 league goals to his name.
Mbappe’s achievements don’t stop there. The 26-year-old has also outpaced Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut-season numbers. While Ronaldo scored 26 goals in LaLiga and 35 in all competitions after he arrived from Manchester United in 2009, Mbappe has already tallied 40 goals across all competitions.
Despite early criticism, Mbappe’s stellar performances and record-breaking feats have quickly cemented his status as a new icon at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mbappe’s outstanding goalscoring and performances for Real Madrid have put him in contention for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award.
