Kylian Mbappe backs Ballon d’Or case after scoring three competition Golden Boots

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe says he is confident of winning the Ballon d’Or after finishing as the leading scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup.

The France international continued his public campaign for the prestigious individual award on Tuesday, highlighting his performances despite ending the season without a major team trophy.

Mbappe, 27, was the World Cup’s top scorer in the summer and also led the scoring charts in last season’s Champions League and La Liga. His three Golden Boots form the central part of his argument for recognition.

“I feel confident because I know what I have done,” Mbappe told RFI radio.

“They won’t announce a team in the envelope, they will announce a player.

“The ability to perform individually and produce eye-catching moments, that’s what stands out to people for an award like this.

“I was top scorer in all the biggest competitions and I think that this could be a good year for me, and I really feel it.”

Mbappe scored 25 goals in La Liga, 15 in the Champions League and a further 10 at the World Cup. His scoring record at the global tournament also took him to 22 goals overall, making him its all-time leading goalscorer.

However, his campaign was not matched by success for either of his teams. France were eliminated by defeat in the World Cup semi-finals, while Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

The former Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain forward faces strong competition from players whose clubs or countries achieved major honours in 2026.

Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres helped Barcelona win La Liga and the World Cup with Spain. Paris Saint-Germain pair Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were part of the French Ligue 1 and Champions League-winning side.

Harry Kane is also among the leading contenders after becoming a Bundesliga champion with Bayern Munich.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in London on 26 October.
