Kruger United boss Abram Mongoya backs side to turn Betway Premiership fortunes around

Kruger United head coach Abram Mongoya says his newly promoted team will overcome its difficult start to life in the Betway Premiership, insisting they will “turn around things” by their eighth to 10th match of the season.

Kruger’s struggles continued on Tuesday when they were beaten 4-0 by Orlando Pirates, leaving them without a win in their first five matches of the campaign. The result also highlighted the club’s lack of attacking threat, with Kruger having scored only two goals since beginning their top-flight campaign.

Despite the poor results, Mongoya believes his players are making progress and has urged everyone at the club to remain committed to the plan being implemented by the technical staff.

“Yes, I think the boys must trust the process, technical staff must never doubt, hopefully the management will also stick to what we’re trying to do because there’s progress from our game one to where we are now.

“I think second round (of the season) is going to be very difficult to beat Kruger,” Mongoya told SuperSport after the game.

The coach said Kruger’s performances had shown signs of improvement, even though they had not yet been reflected in the results. He pointed to the team’s possession and chance creation against Orlando Pirates as evidence that the scoreline did not tell the whole story.

“I think very, very I can promise game number eight, ten we will turn around things because we just need one victory, for me you look at the numbers at halftime you above 60-something percent with the ball possession, you’ve got more than four chances created versus a team like that and they get only two chances.

“For me, it’s the unfortunate part where we need to learn in this league you need to be very decisive with the little chances that you get.”

Mongoya’s immediate challenge is to address Kruger’s lack of goals after just two in five fixtures. The defeat by Orlando Pirates was the latest setback for a side adjusting to the demands of the Betway Premiership following promotion.

The Kruger coach believes the team’s inability to make the most of limited opportunities has been a decisive factor in their opening results. While he highlighted the number of chances created against Orlando Pirates, he acknowledged that top-flight football requires greater efficiency in front of goal.

Mongoya is therefore looking to the coming matches as a period in which Kruger can develop their performances and begin converting possession and opportunities into points. His expectation is that the team will become considerably harder to beat during the second round of the season, provided the players, technical staff and management continue to support the process.

For now, Kruger remain without a victory after five games and must find a way to improve both their scoring record and their ability to take chances. But Mongoya’s stated target is clear: he expects the turnaround to begin by the eighth to 10th game of the campaign.
