Krépin Diatta clarifies Monaco situation and reaffirms commitment to Senegal
Krépin Diatta has dismissed rumours about his exclusion from AS Monaco and reaffirmed his commitment to both his club and Senegal.
The Senegalese winger returned to the squad in mid-September after uncertainty surrounding his future during the summer transfer window.
He confirmed that there was never any conflict with Monaco but admitted that he had raised concerns about his playing time.
“Many people think the club excluded me, but that wasn’t true. We just had a discussion during training,” said Diatta. “I’m ambitious and I want to play regularly.
I told the club that I couldn’t be an important player for Senegal while sitting on the bench at Monaco.”
The 25-year-old, who can operate as a winger or full-back, stressed that his desire for more involvement stemmed from his drive to contribute meaningfully on the pitch.
He revealed that he only wanted clarity about his role, particularly as he entered the final year of his contract.
During the early weeks of the season, Diatta struggled for game time under then-coach Adi Hütter.
However, his situation improved in late September when he earned a recall and began featuring more prominently.
His energetic display against Metz, where Monaco won 5-2, marked a turning point in his club form.
“After the match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, we spoke again, and Monaco decided to reintegrate me,” he said. “Since then, I have focused on giving my best for both the club and the national team.”
Diatta now plays a vital role for Senegal under coach Pape Thiaw, who has regularly deployed him at right-back since taking charge in late 2024.
The former Club Brugge player has earned 50 international caps and scored twice for the Lions of Teranga.
His adaptability has made him a reliable option for both defensive and attacking duties.
When asked about his future at Monaco, Diatta remained cautious but optimistic.
“There’s no problem between me and the club,” he assured. “Everything depends on how the new coach wants to use me.”
Following Denis Zakaria’s injury, Monaco provisionally listed Diatta among the players eligible for Champions League matches, reflecting renewed trust from the club.
The winger now hopes to maintain consistency and help his side in both domestic and European competitions.
For Senegal, Diatta’s leadership and experience remain vital as the team prepares for their final 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Mauritania.
His energy, discipline, and versatility continue to make him a cornerstone of the national squad.
Diatta’s determination and honesty highlight his strong character, as he looks to rebuild confidence at Monaco while continuing to deliver for Senegal.
His focus now lies on performance, not speculation — a message that underscores his professionalism and hunger to succeed.
