Marcel KolLer, the head coach of Al Ahly, is scheduled to hold a press conference today, Thursday, alongside one of the team’s players to discuss the upcoming match against MC Alger, as per the regulations of the African Football Confederation.
Al Ahly is gearing up to face MC Alger, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, at 9 PM Cairo time, as part of the fourth round of the group stage in the CAF Champions League.
The team arrived in Algeria late yesterday evening, Wednesday, and will train today after their arrival.
They conducted a morning training session at El Tetsh before heading to Cairo Airport to embark on the journey to Algeria, which took nearly five hours aboard a private plane.
In a related development, Marcel Koller has decided to start Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim, known as Kahraba, in the team’s forward line against MC Alger, despite the impressive performances of French forward Anthony Modeste in recent friendly matches, where he scored several goals during the team’s break from domestic competitions.
Koller’s decision stems from Kahraba’s proficiency in executing counterattacks, a skill that Modeste lacks despite his speed and accuracy.
Koller leans towards fielding Kahraba as a starter against the Algerian champions, perhaps due to fitness considerations or Modeste’s need for more time to acclimate to African conditions, especially in matches held outside Egypt.
The coach intends to keep the French striker on the bench, ready to be substituted for Kahraba as the match progresses, as Al Ahly aims to secure three points to take a significant step towards qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.
