Khaled Ben Yahia aims for transformation at MC Alger with new approach

Yuu

Khaled Ben Yahia has wasted no time in setting the tone for his tenure as the new head coach of Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MC Alger), following his arrival in the Algerian capital.

The Tunisian coach immediately got to work, leading his first training session at the Zeralda training center on Tuesday, just a day after signing a contract that will keep him at the helm until the end of the 2024/2025 season, with an option for an additional year should he meet his objectives.

Upon his arrival, Ben Yahia addressed the squad with an introductory speech, outlining his coaching philosophy, expectations, and the standards of conduct he expects from his players.

The session was marked by an emphasis on discipline, dedication, and fostering a collective spirit, with the coach setting the stage for a fresh approach to the team’s mentality.

Ben Yahia stressed the importance of a strong work ethic and individual responsibility, assuring players that their roles would be reassessed based on their form and qualities, all aimed at improving the team’s overall performance.

In his pursuit of strengthening the squad, Ben Yahia has already engaged in discussions with MC Alger’s leadership about potential reinforcements ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.

A key target will be making the most of any new arrivals, particularly foreign players, to add depth to the squad.

One notable development is the return of Ivorian striker Romaric Dognimin Ouattara, who is expected back in early January 2025 after recovering from a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee.

His return is seen as crucial in bolstering the attacking line, which has not been as potent as it was last season, despite the summer signing of forward Andy Delort, who has struggled to find his rhythm.

Other attacking options include Tayeb Meziani, Zakaria Naïdji, Soufiane Bayazid, Khayreddine Merzougui, and the promising young talent Amine Messoussa.

Ben Yahia will also need to address the situation of Ivorian striker Zunon Kipré Jr, who has found limited playing time under previous management.

Kipré is hopeful that the change in leadership will provide him with more opportunities, though he faces stiff competition, with Mohamed Zougrana being a key figure in the attack, despite not yet reaching the level of his previous season’s performances.

Additionally, defender Serge Anthony Badjo, another Ivorian whose form has been inconsistent, will need to improve after his costly mistake in the derby against CR Belouizdad, which led to a third goal for the opposition.

His struggles reflect the broader challenges Ben Yahia faces as he looks to stabilize the team.

Ben Yahia’s task is not an easy one, as he takes over a squad that has seen frequent changes in both formation and personnel this season.

His predecessor’s inability to find a settled lineup has created instability, particularly in midfield and attack.

The team has often deployed a 4-3-3 formation but has struggled to maintain consistency.

Now, with a clearer vision and a fresh approach, Ben Yahia faces the challenge of building a more cohesive and competitive team.

His first steps will be critical in restoring the confidence of the players and regaining the consistency MC Alger needs in the coming fixtures.

As the matches continue to come thick and fast, Ben Yahia’s adaptability and leadership will be put to the test.
