Former Italian footballer Bruno Giordano believes Napoli would become an unstoppable force if they manage to retain Victor Osimhen for the upcoming season, amid speculation that the striker could still remain at the club under new manager Antonio Conte.
Osimhen, who has been linked with a move away from Naples for much of the summer, was initially expected to leave following a campaign marked by injuries and transfer rumours.
After spending part of last season on loan at Galatasaray, the Nigeria international appeared set for an exit.
However, fresh reports in Italy suggest that the 26-year-old could now meet with Conte to discuss the possibility of staying for another year.
For Giordano, a former Napoli forward and club icon, Osimhen’s continued presence would significantly boost the team’s prospects.
“They would be even stronger, almost invincible,” he told Il Mattino. “It would be a great coup for Napoli. Because with the tough defence we saw last year and a stellar attack, nothing would become impossible.”
Giordano added that keeping Osimhen would send a powerful statement across the football world.
“For Napoli it would mean sending a very strong message to the world. If you also add Osimhen to this team, it becomes unbeatable in Italy and would also be scary in Europe.”
Conte, who recently replaced Francesco Calzona, is looking to reshape the squad after a disappointing title defence.
While key departures are expected, the potential continuity of Osimhen could offer the new coach a formidable attacking foundation alongside emerging talents.
Whether Osimhen stays or leaves could define Napoli’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe next season.
