Kayode announces Italy arrival with goal on international debut

Michael Kayode marked his first appearance for Italy by scoring in a 4-1 victory over Turkey in Bursa.

The 22-year-old Brentford right-back made an immediate impression, finding the net for the first time in a Italy shirt as the Azzurri responded strongly to their recent defeat by Belgium.

Born in Italy to parents from Ondo State in Nigeria, Kayode was eligible to represent the Super Eagles. He chose instead to continue his international career with Italy, a decision that gained added significance after his debut ended with both a cap and a goal.

Kayode was influential throughout the match on the right flank. He completed 39 of his 42 passes, had 69 touches and created one chance.

His contribution was also evident in the final third, where he completed three passes. He was particularly effective with his delivery, finding his target with every cross and long ball attempted.

The Brentford defender also made four clearances and won back possession twice, underlining the all-round nature of his performance.

The result gave Italy a much-needed lift after they lost 2-0 to Belgium in Rome last Friday. It was the Nazionale’s first match since their failure in the race for the World Cup, and they responded with an assured display in Turkey.

Italy were helped by the space their opponents allowed them, giving Luciano Spalletti’s side room to build attacks and control the game. For Kayode, however, the occasion will be remembered above all as a notable introduction to international football.
