Kalidou Koulibaly Set for Napoli Switch from Genk
Kalidou Koulibaly is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A side Napoli, according to reports in Italy and Belgium. The Genk defender, who has been closely monitored by the Italian club for several weeks, is believed to have signed with the southern giants.
The Franco-Senegalese centre-back has impressed with his performances in the Belgian top flight, attracting interest from several European clubs. However, it appears Napoli have won the race for his signature.
Italian media reports, echoed by Belgian outlet RTBF, suggest that a preliminary agreement between the clubs has been in place for some time. The deal is reportedly valued between €4 million and €5 million, a modest fee for a player considered one of the most promising young defenders in the Belgian league.
Koulibaly, 22, has been a key figure for Genk, combining physical strength with composure on the ball and tactical awareness — traits that have made him a standout in the Belgian Pro League. His arrival is expected to bolster Napoli’s defensive options ahead of next season as the club looks to challenge at the top of Serie A and in Europe.
The move marks a significant step up in Koulibaly’s career. A product of the French system, he made his professional debut with Metz before joining Genk in 2012. Since then, he has matured into a commanding presence at the heart of defence, catching the attention of scouts across the continent.
For Napoli, Koulibaly’s signing represents another strategic acquisition of young talent with high potential. With the club aiming to strengthen its squad under the stewardship of manager Rafa Benítez, the defender could quickly find himself in contention for a regular starting role.
An official announcement is expected once all formalities are completed.
