Kalidou Koulibaly set to miss rest of Al Hilal season through injury
Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly is not expected to feature again for Al Hilal this season as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury, according to Saudi journalist Ahmad Alajlan.
The experienced centre-back has been sidelined since April 8 and remains unavailable during a decisive stage of Al Hilal’s campaign.
His absence comes as the Saudi club continues its pursuit of the Saudi Pro League title while also preparing for the King of Champions Cup final against Al-Kholood.
Koulibaly has not been included in the squad for Friday’s cup final, further strengthening reports that his club season may already be over. Although Al Hilal have not officially confirmed the exact duration of his injury lay-off, indications suggest the Senegal captain is unlikely to return before the end of the campaign.
The timing is a significant setback for both player and club. Al Hilal remain involved in an intense title battle and currently trail Al Nassr by two points as the season approaches its conclusion.
Koulibaly’s experience and leadership have been important elements of the squad throughout the campaign, making his continued absence particularly notable during the closing weeks.
The former Chelsea defender’s physical condition is also attracting attention beyond club football. Reports regarding the length of his recovery have raised fresh uncertainty over his readiness for upcoming international commitments with Senegal.
The 2026 World Cup remains an important focus for the Lions of Teranga, who have been drawn in Group I alongside France, Norway and Iraq.
While there has been no official indication that Koulibaly’s participation is under direct threat, the lack of clarity surrounding his recovery timeline has inevitably created concern.
Since joining Al Hilal, Koulibaly has remained one of the leading African figures in Saudi football, bringing experience from top-level European competitions and international tournaments. His injury therefore represents a major loss both on and off the pitch.
For now, Al Hilal must continue their push for silverware without one of their defensive leaders, while Senegal will closely monitor the defender’s rehabilitation ahead of future international duties.
The coming weeks are expected to provide a clearer picture regarding Koulibaly’s recovery and potential return to competitive action.
