Kaizer Chiefs youngster Faiz Abrahams reveals free-kick advice behind stunning goal

Faiz Abrahams has revealed that Wandile Duba’s simple instruction to “score” inspired the spectacular free-kick that helped Kaizer Chiefs beat Siwelele 3-2 in the Betway Premiership.

The 21-year-old made only his second appearance for Amakhosi after coming on as a substitute, but marked the occasion with a decisive moment at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs were leading 2-1 when they won a free-kick in the 76th minute, deep in Siwelele territory and midway between the left touchline and the penalty area. Abrahams stepped forward to take responsibility, with Duba offering him clear advice before the kick was taken.

“When I went to take the free kick, (Wandile) Duba told me not to cross the ball for anyone but to try and score,” Abrahams told the club’s media department.

The youngster followed those instructions to the letter. Using his right foot, Abrahams struck the ball with pace and precision, sending it curling towards the far post.

The effort hit the post before rebounding into the net via Siwelele goalkeeper Samukelo Xulu. The goal gave Kaizer Chiefs a 3-1 advantage and appeared to put them firmly in control.

Siwelele scored again late in the match, but Chiefs held on to secure victory, with Abrahams’ goal ultimately proving decisive.

For the forward, the strike was the result of the hard work he has invested since joining the club. It was also an important personal milestone after limited opportunities in the first-team squad.

“It felt great because I have been working very hard,” he said.

Abrahams now hopes the goal will provide the foundation for a sustained run of form rather than remain an isolated highlight. He says his focus is on continuing to improve and maintaining the standards required at Kaizer Chiefs.

“I’m just going to keep working hard and giving my all in training. I aim to stay consistent and always keep my performance levels up.”

The confidence gained from his performance comes at a useful time for Chiefs, who face another Betway Premiership test away to Polokwane City on Saturday.

Abrahams said the players would wait for Fernando da Cruz to decide how the team will approach the fixture, but insisted they would be prepared to carry out the manager’s instructions.

“The coach will set a plan for this weekend, and we will go out and execute it,” he said.

The match will begin at 3pm at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
