Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC were level at 0-0 at half-time in their Betway Premiership meeting on Tuesday evening.
The injury-hit Amakhosi returned to league action seeking a first win after successive draws with Polokwane City and Golden Arrows, results which have slowed their efforts to climb the table.
Stellenbosch arrived with confidence after defeating newcomers Kruger United and were aiming to claim another significant result.
Chiefs made a cautious start and were fortunate not to fall behind when Sinoxolo Kwayiba, the former Orlando Pirates striker, found space on the far side of the penalty area. His powerful effort struck the top of the crossbar.
The hosts gradually became more involved after the half-hour mark and began to create opportunities of their own. Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens then produced an important close-range save to keep out Wandile Duba’s dangerous effort.
Both sides pushed for the opening goal during an increasingly open closing period before the interval, but neither could find the decisive finish.
