Kaizer Chiefs eye Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi amid Orlando Pirates transfer links

Kaizer Chiefs’ 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign is now set to end with a third-place finish, a position that guarantees qualification for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup but also places the club’s technical leadership under fresh scrutiny.

Attention has quickly shifted to what comes next for interim coaches Cedric Kaze and Ben Youssef, whose future remains uncertain despite delivering a clear improvement on last season’s 10th-place finish.

That previous campaign ended under Nasreddine Nabi, who was dismissed shortly after guiding the club to Nedbank Cup success Nedbank Cup, a rare highlight in a difficult period for the Glamour Boys.

The latest coaching discourse has drawn high-profile names back into the frame, with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi emerging as a leading candidate to take over at Naturena.

Club insiders suggest a structure change is being considered, with Kaze and Youssef potentially retained in supporting roles rather than as permanent heads.

Kaizer Chiefs insider Innocent Mkhize has reinforced that view, stating on social media that “Based on reliable information, those two coaches are staying,” and adding that “The plan at Kaizer Chiefs is to add one senior figure to the technical team, with Manqoba Mngqithi currently top of the list.”

At the same time, the long-standing link to former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane remains unresolved. While Mosimane is understood to be available and open to the role, no formal approach has yet been made, leaving the possibility open but far from advanced.

Beyond the dugout debate, Kaizer Chiefs are also being drawn into early transfer speculation involving rivals Orlando Pirates Orlando Pirates.

Two names frequently mentioned are striker Tshegofatso Mabaso Tshegofatso Mabaso and midfielder Kabelo Dlamini Kabelo Dlamini.

Mabaso, currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC Stellenbosch FC, is reportedly unwilling to return to Pirates as his contract nears its end, with interest also said to be emerging from AmaZulu and Al Ahly.

Dlamini, meanwhile, is believed to be weighing up his long-term future in search of regular football that could revive his chances with the national team.

Although no official moves have been confirmed from Chiefs, both situations are being closely monitored as the club prepares for a potentially decisive transfer window that could reshape its squad and technical direction simultaneously.
