Kaizer Chiefs Clinch South African Championship with 4-1 Win Over Polokwane City
Kaizer Chiefs have officially been crowned South African champions, securing the Premier Soccer League title with a dominant 4-1 victory over Polokwane City on Wednesday. The win, with three matches still to play, ensures that Amakhosi cannot be overtaken at the top of the table.
With 63 points, Kaizer Chiefs have an unassailable lead, 15 points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who sit on 48 points. Bidvest Wits complete the top three with 45 points. This title marks a successful campaign for Chiefs, who have now succeeded Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending champions from last season.
The victory over Polokwane was built on strong performances from Chiefs’ key players, with George Lebese, Bernard Parker, and a double from Edward Rusike providing the goals. Although the league title is secured, the PSL will officially hand the trophy to Kaizer Chiefs on May 9, 2015.
The win adds another chapter to the club’s illustrious history, and the celebrations are already underway as they claim their place as South Africa’s top footballing side this season.
