Juventus sign Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr on season-long loan

Juventus have completed the signing of Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham before the summer transfer window closes.

The 23-year-old has joined the Italian club on loan for one season, with Juventus paying Tottenham €2.5m for the temporary move. The agreement also includes an option for Juventus to make the transfer permanent for a further €27.5m.

Sarr’s move follows Juventus’ capture of German striker Nick Woltemade from Newcastle, as the Serie A club continue to add to their squad before the end of the transfer window.

The midfielder began his professional career with French club Metz, where he quickly attracted attention with his performances at a young age. His progress led to interest from several clubs across Europe before Tottenham secured his services in 2021.

However, Sarr remained in France for one more season after completing his move to Tottenham, spending that campaign on loan. He then continued his development in English football and built substantial experience in the Premier League.

Sarr has made more than 100 appearances in the Premier League during his time in England. He was also part of the Tottenham squad that won the UEFA Europa League in the 2024-25 season.

His performances at club level have also established him as an important member of the Senegal national team. Sarr played a significant role in Senegal’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, adding international success to his growing list of achievements.

The move to Juventus gives Sarr the opportunity to continue his career in Italy after four years with Tottenham. The loan arrangement allows the Italian club to assess the Senegal international during the season before deciding whether to activate the permanent transfer option.

For Tottenham, the deal sees Sarr leave temporarily, with the possibility of a permanent sale if Juventus choose to pay the agreed €27.5m fee. Juventus, meanwhile, have added a player with Premier League experience and a record of involvement at international level as they strengthen their squad.

The transfer was completed shortly before the summer window closes, making Sarr the latest player to move from the Premier League to Juventus. His career has taken him from Metz to Tottenham and now to Serie A, after he emerged as one of the most closely watched young players in French football.
