Julian Alvarez future reaches decisive stage after overnight family talks

The future of Julian Alvarez has moved into its final stages, with the striker’s family holding a meeting that lasted more than five hours as the player weighs whether to pursue a move to Barcelona, consider Arsenal or attempt to repair his relationship with Atletico Madrid.

According to Sport, citing Cadena SER, Alvarez’s family met with his agent Hidalgo and the rest of his representatives, including his lawyers, during the past few hours. The discussions continued until dawn and focused on the increasingly difficult situation surrounding the Argentina international.

The meeting was intended to assess whether Alvarez should ultimately accept Arsenal’s offer, given the growing obstacles to joining Barcelona, or try to restore his relationship with Atletico Madrid. Those are currently viewed as the only realistic options available to him.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta said last Wednesday that the club had not abandoned its attempt to sign Alvarez. However, Atletico Madrid’s board has since issued a statement reaffirming its support for the decision not to sell the player to Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid believe Barcelona’s conduct throughout the negotiations has contributed to the breakdown in relations. The Spanish club has hardened its position and is no longer simply insisting that Alvarez is not for sale to Barcelona; its entire board is now backing that stance.

Arsenal are currently the only club presenting a genuine route for Alvarez to leave the Metropolitano. The Premier League club has the financial strength to complete a major transfer and is monitoring the dispute closely.

The difficulty for Arsenal is that Alvarez himself is still not fully convinced about joining the Gunners. His preference remains an important factor as he considers the next stage of his career.

The alternative would require a considerably more challenging step from the 25-year-old forward. Alvarez could remain with Atletico Madrid, apologise and accept the current situation, then work to rebuild the trust of the club’s supporters.

That option would mean taking a step back after the dispute and attempting to re-establish his standing in Madrid. The club’s increasingly firm public position, however, has made the process more complicated.

Alvarez must now decide whether to continue pursuing a move to Barcelona until the end, while accepting the risk that he could remain in Madrid, or whether to open the door to Arsenal.

The Argentina forward’s family and representatives are therefore examining both the sporting and practical consequences of the decision. Barcelona remain interested, but Atletico Madrid’s refusal to negotiate has made that transfer increasingly difficult to achieve.

The subject and the latest developments can also be discussed in greater depth on the Kooora forums.
