Jules Kounde’s future reviewed as Arsenal monitor Barcelona defender

The agent of Barcelona defender Jules Kounde visited the club’s Joan Gamper training ground on Wednesday as speculation grows over the France international’s future at Camp Nou.

Jonathan Kebe’s presence at Barcelona’s facilities was reported by journalist Gerard Romero on the Jijantes platform. The visit comes at a time when Arsenal’s interest in signing Kounde is understood to be increasing.

Kebe appears to be seeking clarity over his client’s position at Barcelona and the club’s plans for him during the remainder of the transfer window. No decision on Kounde’s future has been announced, but his situation is attracting growing attention in Spain and England.

Arsenal are monitoring the defender as they consider ways to strengthen their back line. Their need to add defensive cover has become more pressing following William Saliba’s injury.

Kounde is regarded as an attractive option for manager Mikel Arteta because of his ability to operate both at centre-back and at right-back. That versatility could make him particularly useful to Arsenal as they assess their defensive choices.

The Premier League club’s pursuit of Ezri Konsa has become more complicated because of Aston Villa’s financial demands, which are reported to exceed €75m. That development has increased the focus on alternative defensive targets, including Kounde.

Barcelona, meanwhile, may be prepared to examine a suitable offer for the Frenchman. Catalan newspaper Sport has reported that the club could consider selling Kounde as part of a wider attempt to reorganise its defence and generate funds for other signings.

However, Kounde’s own preference appears to be different at present. The defender is still inclined to remain with Barcelona, despite the uncertainty surrounding his position and the interest from Arsenal.

Kounde joined Barcelona from Sevilla and has become an important member of the squad, with his ability to cover two defensive positions adding to his value. His future will therefore depend on whether Barcelona receive an offer they consider acceptable, as well as on the player’s willingness to leave.

For now, the visit from his representative has renewed questions rather than provided a definitive answer. Arsenal are continuing to follow the situation, while Kounde remains minded to stay at Barcelona and the Spanish club considers how best to reshape its squad during the transfer window.
