Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee has been challenged by head coach Ruben Amorim to sharpen his edge and embrace a more ruthless attitude as a striker with the Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon fast approaching.
The Dutch forward, who has notched 6 goals and 2 assists in 46 appearances this season, is showing promise but needs to think more like a predator in the box.
“I think he is improving in all aspects. I think he needs to be more selfish and that is a thing when you play as a striker. He is not a typical striker but he has to be more selfish,” Amorim said.
“He is more aggressive now, he works better now, he is defending better now, he is connecting quite well and he played as a striker against Arsenal and did really, really well. In the games against Sociedad, he played more as a No.10. He is improving and showing good things,” the coach added.
Zirkzee’s versatility is clear, but Amorim wants that selfish spark to ignite Manchester United’s struggling attack.
