Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil has assured fans that the Black Stars are determined to book their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the team’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The four-time AFCON champions endured a disastrous qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.
However, the team is in a stronger position in the World Cup qualifiers, sitting second in their group with the same points as leaders Comoros.
With crucial games ahead, the Black Stars cannot afford any slip-ups as they aim for the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Reflecting on the AFCON setback, Paintsil acknowledged the rising competitiveness of African football.
“As you can see, we were surprised by a lot of teams. But you know, it happens. We just ask Ghanaians to always support us no matter what happens. We need to go through everything together.
“All they need to do is help us, pray for us, and support us in the upcoming qualification for the World Cup.
“That is the most important thing. So, they should come in their numbers to support us, and we will also make them proud and always give them their tickets.”
Meanwhile, head coach Otto Addo faces growing scrutiny, with his future yet to be clarified by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
