Spanish coach Jose Riveiro is wasting no time stamping his mark at Al Ahly.
Just a day before officially taking charge, the Spanish coach laid out a clear plan for his tenure following key talks with club president Mahmoud Al Khatib and senior officials.
Riveiro, signed on a two-year deal, made an immediate impression during meetings with the football planning committee and sports director Mohamed Youssef.
A club source told Kooora that Riveiro’s top request is signing a new centre-back to bolster the squad. However, the coach is also keen to assess his current crop before final decisions are made.
Looking ahead to the Club World Cup in the United States, Riveiro has requested a trimmed squad of 28 players, believing it is the ideal size to maintain focus and tactical clarity.
He has also called for the appointment of an Egyptian assistant coach and performance analyst. Existing staff including Ayman Mohamed, Abdel Rahman Issa, a psychologist, and a nutritionist will stay on.
Riveiro’s proactive start hints at a focused and demanding era for Al Ahly.
