Jose Riveiro hails Jose Maswanganyi’s leadership in derby win

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has praised Patrick Maswanganyi for his composure and leadership after the midfielder’s last-minute penalty secured a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby.

“With the penalty, I knew he would take responsibility,” Riveiro said, commending Maswanganyi’s courage in key moments.

Despite facing criticism for his expressive playing style, the coach defended the 26-year-old, calling him a vital asset.

“Even if he makes mistakes, having a player like him is a blessing,” he added.

Orlando Pirates, now on 30 points, face Sekhukhune United next at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
