Jose Peseiro has finally shed light on the reasons behind Ahmed Sayed Zizo’s absence and his own unexpected exit from Zamalek.
The Portuguese coach in a TV interview revealed that he had plans to stay until the end of the season, but the club’s decision to part ways with him came as a surprise. He noted that although the team was underperforming, the problems ran deeper than just tactics.
Peseiro pointed to Zizo’s situation as a key issue. After reports emerged about Zizo joining another club, the winger lost focus. Peseiro admitted he dropped Zizo twice for non-technical reasons, including a crucial Confederation Cup clash.
He said he made efforts to persuade Zizo to renew his contract, but the player felt ignored by the club’s management and was leaning towards a move, possibly to rivals Al Ahly.
Peseiro still considers Zizo the best player in Egypt and warned that Zamalek will struggle to replace him. He also backed renewals for veterans Shikabala and Abdullah El Said, while hinting that a missed winter signing could have changed the season.
