Following the Egyptian Cup final match, Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho shared his insights on Al Ahly’s victory over Zamalek.
In televised remarks after the game, Mourinho expressed, “It’s difficult to provide a fair assessment of the match, but it was a closely contested game between the two teams and perhaps it should have gone into extra time.”
He added, “Great teams have something magical and exceptional, some may call it experience.
When big teams reach the final moments, they are capable of securing a win in the end, and that’s what Al Ahly did.”
Mourinho continued, acknowledging Zamalek’s commendable performance, stating, “Zamalek put on a great performance and played a good match.
They will surely be disappointed, but they should be proud of what they achieved.”
“I believe Zamalek didn’t deserve to lose, and it’s difficult for me to determine who deserved to win as well.
However, in football, the team that scores the goal is the winner,” Mourinho elaborated.

Reflecting on the pace of the game, Mourinho remarked, “The rhythm of the match was low, and I wouldn’t have liked to play the offside trap as Zamalek did in the first goal.”
He concluded, “I was particularly impressed by the first goal because the young player, Imam Ashour, ran remarkably and had an intense desire to break the offside trap and score, and that’s what happened in the end.”
