Portuguese tactician, Jose Mourinho, has been handed a four-match ban over his alleged racist comments directed at officials and players of Galatasaray.
The controversy erupted after Mourinho, who currently manages Fenerbahce, made comments about the Galatasaray bench “jumping like monkeys” during a recent 0-0 draw between the two Turkish rivals.
In response, Galatasaray announced their intention to “initiate criminal proceedings concerning the perceived racist statements made by Jose Mourinho” and pledged to submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.
Today, information gathered indicates that the disciplinary committee of the Turkish Super League has deemed Mourinho’s statements to contain racist undertones.
Accordingly, he has been banned for four matches.
The ban comes even after former African stars Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and John Mikel Obi jumped to the defense of Mourinho, insisting that he is not racist.
The manager’s club, Fenerbahce, are already said to have prepared an appeal against the decision.
However, if the appeal fails, Mourinho will not be on the bench for Fenerbahce’s upcoming games against Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Bodrum, and Trabzonspor.
