Zamalek Club has officially announced the appointment of Jose Gomez as the head coach of the first team.
In a statement, Zamalek’s board of directors, led by Captain Hussein Labib, confirmed, “The Zamalek Club’s management has contracted with the Portuguese coach Jose Gomez to lead the first football team for a season and a half.”
During the meeting with the club’s board of directors, the head coach signed the team’s coaching contract for a season and a half, finalizing all the details of the agreement.
Jose Gomez embarked on his coaching career in the mid-20s, serving as an assistant coach for clubs such as Pacos de Ferreira and Covilha in Portugal.
He also worked as a fitness coach for several clubs, including Gil Vicente, Benfica, Porto in Portugal, Malaga in Spain, and Panathinaikos in Greece.
Gomez took over as the head coach of the Hungarian team Videoton and later coached Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia.
He then moved to coach Al-Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia before taking charge of Bani Yas in the UAE.
In the same year, he returned to lead Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia.
He also coached Rio Ave and later Maritimo in Portugal, followed by taking the helm at Almeria in Spain.
Gomez returned once again to Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia, then took charge of Ponferradina in the Spanish league.
His latest coaching stint was with Chaves in Portugal, from which he departed in September last year.
