The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has kept faith in Jorge Vilda despite losing the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
The hosts suffered a 3-2 defeat against Nigeria.
After the tournament, reports emerged suggesting that the Spanish trainer will be sacked.
However, a source has dismissed the report, revealing that “This issue has not been discussed within the federation at the moment. Coach Jorge Vilda is continuing his duties, and no decision has been made regarding his future yet.
“Yes, there is a sense of frustration within Moroccan football circles, both due to the loss of the African title and the elimination from the Olympic qualifiers against Zambia, but no official decision has been made regarding the coach’s departure.
“It is likely that Vilda will continue in his duties, as the project to build a strong national team capable of competing at continental level is still ongoing. The next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will serve as a qualifier for the World Cup, and the coach himself expressed his disappointment with the result, but promised to win the continental title in the future,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are reviewing a complaint filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation over controversial refereeing decision.
