Nigerian legend John Utaka believes the Super Eagles will eliminate Morocco and go on to win the Africa Cup of Nations, backing their attacking firepower to make the difference.
In an exclusive interview with Kooora, he said Nigeria’s forwards give them a clear edge in Wednesday’s semi-final, even though he respects Morocco’s quality.
Utaka played for Nigeria at the 2006 World Cup and in three AFCON editions, including the 2004 clash where Morocco beat the Super Eagles 1-0, but he is confident the current generation will “get the job done” this time. He highlighted Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi as Morocco’s biggest threats and urged Nigeria to limit their influence.
Responding to Algerian fans’ anger over refereeing in the quarter-final, Utaka insisted Nigeria were the better side from start to finish and that “one incident” cannot decide a match. He refused to choose between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, calling both world-class.
Looking ahead, Utaka expects Egypt and Nigeria to reach the final, with the Super Eagles lifting the trophy, while noting that winning AFCON would complete Salah’s dream international legacy.
