Joel Asoro relaxed over Djurgarden future as loan ticks down
Joel Asoro says he is staying calm about his future at Djurgarden as his loan deal from French side Metz moves towards its August expiry.
The 27-year-old winger returned to the Stockholm club in March after a spell in France, where Metz have bounced between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
Since coming back, Asoro has featured in all seven Allsvenskan games but has only started once, something he feels does not yet reflect his true level. “Those who know me well still know that there are two, three more gears,” he told Expressen, adding that he feels good in training and is waiting for everything to click.
Asoro’s future beyond the summer remains open. “We’ll see what happens. Then of course I have to play too, to be able to come to a decision. I’ll sit down with them, of course, in August. Then we’ll see what they want to do, what I want to do, how it’s been going.,” he explained, making it clear both sides will review the situation together.
He admits he had hoped for more minutes but understands the context. Arriving late, he walked into a team that had already done a full pre-season and built strong patterns of play, making it tough to instantly jump into a starting role. Asoro’s contract with Metz runs until the summer of 2027, so any long-term stay in Sweden will require further talks between the clubs.
