João Paulo has emerged as a transfer target for Holstein Kiel, with the 2. Bundesliga side reportedly exploring a move for the Otelul Galati central midfielder.

The 27-year-old Cape Verde international, currently valued at about €700,000, is being linked with a switch from Romania’s SuperLiga to Germany’s second tier, according to data compiled on 20 December 2025. The level of interest has not been quantified, with the probability of the deal described only as “?”.

No contract details are publicly available for the left-footed midfielder at Otelul Galati, leaving open the possibility that he could move for a relatively modest fee or potentially edge towards free-agent status, which would make him an even more attractive option for Kiel.

João Paulo joined Otelul Galati from FC Sheriff Tiraspol, having previously built his career largely in Portugal with CD Feirense, Leça FC and SC Maria da Fonte after leaving Sporting Clube Praia in his homeland of Cape Verde. His market value has climbed steadily over recent seasons, particularly following his time at Sheriff Tiraspol, before rising again to €700k after his move to Romania was assessed in December 2025.

Primarily deployed as a central midfielder, the 1.80m left-footer is viewed as a player capable of linking play between defence and attack, attributes that could appeal to a Holstein Kiel side looking to strengthen their options in the middle of the pitch for a promotion push in the 2. Bundesliga.

With neither club having announced formal negotiations and no agreement in place, this remains a rumour at this stage. However, if a transfer to Germany does materialise, it would mark another step up in profile for João Paulo and could prove pivotal in shaping the next phase of his European career.
