Joan Garcia plans a different celebration if Barcelona win the Champions League

Joan Garcia says he has no intention of copying Marc Cucurella’s tattoo celebration if Barcelona win the Champions League, insisting he does not currently plan to have any ink added to mark the achievement.

The Barcelona goalkeeper also said substitutes can experience the same emotions as those selected to play, arguing that players on the bench can feel just as involved in a major success.

“I think that sometimes you suffer more from the bench than those who are on the pitch, and you feel that you are involved to the same extent and are a champion like everyone else,” Garcia told Spanish newspaper Sport.

Garcia was speaking about his experience with Spain and acknowledged that he has not played in any of the country’s matches at the 2026 World Cup. Despite that lack of on-field involvement, he maintained that being part of the squad can still bring a strong sense of participation and achievement.

His comments came after he was asked whether Barcelona supporters might expect him to get a tattoo of manager Hansi Flick if the club lifted the Champions League trophy. The suggestion referred to Cucurella’s decision to get a tattoo connected with Spain manager Luis de la Fuente.

“Yes, I know about that. But no, I have to say that I am not planning to do that at the moment,” Garcia said.

He added: “I do not have tattoos and I am not thinking about getting one. If we win the Champions League, we will have to think of something else.”

That response rules out Garcia following the example set by Cucurella, although the Barcelona keeper did not indicate what alternative celebration he might consider should the team claim the European title.

The discussion also turned to Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid and whether the transfer had surprised members of the Spain camp. Garcia said the decision had not come as a shock, while recognising that the defender had chosen what he believed was right for his career.

“No, because in the end everyone decides what is best for them and for their future. Honestly, I think it is a good move for him. When it happened, he was subjected to some jokes, but in the end we were happy for him,” Garcia said.

Garcia’s remarks therefore combined two themes: his belief that squad players deserve to share fully in a team’s success, and his refusal to commit to a tattoo as a personal tribute if Barcelona win the Champions League. While Cucurella’s gesture provided the obvious comparison, Garcia made clear that he does not currently have tattoos and is not considering getting one.

For now, the goalkeeper’s position is straightforward: should Barcelona triumph in Europe, he would celebrate with something other than a tattoo linked to Flick.
