Danish coach Jess Thorup has announced Al Ahly’s squad for their Egyptian Premier League tie against Ittihad, marking his first domestic squad selection since taking over as manager.

The 21-man list includes star names such as Mohamed El Shenawy, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Marwan Attia, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, and Aliou Dieng.

However, Al Ahly will be without six players for this crucial match: Emam Ashour (recovering from a viral infection), Ashraf Dari, Karim Fouad, Hussein El Shahat, Mohamed Sherif (all out with injuries), and Hamza Alaa (not registered domestically).

Mohamed Sherif’s participation in the upcoming Egyptian Super Cup in the UAE remains uncertain due to a second-degree groin strain, and his focus will be on rehabilitation to return as soon as medically cleared. “We’re focused on those whose contracts are up this season. There will be no negotiations for anyone else, this is a strict club policy,” said a club source.

Torup, stepping in after a shaky Al Ahly start under Jose Riveiro, aims to usher in a new era as the club seeks to rise up the table and return to glory.
