Jerome Valcke, the secretary-general of FIFA, expressed his commitment to supporting the development of football in Africa during a seminar in South Africa with member associations of the Confederation of African Football. He emphasized the importance of professionalizing African championships and promoting grassroots football to encourage more participation in the sport.
Valcke voiced his desire to see an African team advance to the final of a World Cup, stating that FIFA would provide assistance to help African football progress.
Despite hosting the 2010 World Cup on African soil, no African team managed to reach the podium. Valcke’s comments reflect a hope for African football to achieve greater success on the world stage, building on past achievements such as Ghana’s quarter-final appearance in 2010, as well as Cameroon and Senegal’s performances in previous tournaments.
