Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is set to make his return for the club’s FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham on Saturday at Selhurst Park.
The French forward has been sidelined for a month following a severe ear injury but is now available for selection and will wear protective gear during the match.
Injury and recovery timeline
Mateta sustained the injury on March 1st during Palace’s 3-1 victory over Millwall in the FA Cup round of 16.
A heavy collision with opposing goalkeeper Liam Roberts resulted in a deep cut to his left ear, requiring 25 stitches.
The former Mainz forward then underwent a period of rehabilitation before gradually reintegrating into full training.
Glasner confirms Mateta’s readiness
Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that Mateta has fully recovered and is prepared to feature.
“He trained with us for two weeks. Of course, always with his protective gear,” Glasner said. “During the international break, he even played a friendly at home and managed to complete 60 minutes without any issues. Yes, he’s ready.”
Palace eyeing historic Cup run
Crystal Palace will be hopeful that Mateta’s return provides a significant boost as they aim to progress to the FA Cup semi-finals.
The club continues to chase its first-ever triumph in the prestigious domestic competition, and a victory over Fulham would move them one step closer to making history.
