Jean-Philippe Mateta set for Crystal Palace return in FA Cup clash

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has offered an update on striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, providing clarity on his injury and his future at Selhurst Park.

The France international of DR Congolese descent was set for a potential move to AC Milan during the winter transfer window, but the deal collapsed after medical tests revealed a knee issue on deadline day.

Speaking at his latest press conference, Glasner revealed that Mateta will not require surgery. “It’s important for him now that it’s clear he will be a Crystal Palace player, at least until the summer. Right now, he doesn’t need surgery, so it is clear what we need to do in the next couple of weeks. Clarity is the most important thing,” the Palace boss said.

Mateta, Palace’s joint top scorer alongside Ismaila Sarr with 10 goals across all competitions, will soon be able to contribute again. Glasner expressed confidence in the striker’s commitment.

“I am 100% convinced that JP will give us his best when he wears the Eagles shirt again. I think he deserves the best support, and I am pretty sure our fans will support him in the best way. They appreciate what he has done for Crystal Palace.”

The forward now joins forces with club-record signing Jorgen Strand Larsen, who arrived from Wolves in the winter window. Palace are counting on the pair to bolster their attack as the season progresses.

Reports suggest Mateta could be available following March’s international break, potentially returning for the Premier League clash against Leeds United.
