Jean Onana has once again refrained from commenting on his future as he focuses on the remaining challenges with Genoa in Serie A.
The Cameroonian midfielder, speaking in an exclusive interview with Il Secolo XIX, discussed his current season, the strong team atmosphere at the club, and his decision to leave questions about his future unanswered.
With seven matches left in the league, Genoa sits comfortably in twelfth place, and Onana is optimistic about the team’s potential to move further up the table.
“There are still seven games left, and we have the quality to finish in the top 10,” Onana said, emphasizing his belief in the team’s abilities. “We are focused on the remaining fixtures. There is no room for complacency, and we will keep pushing to improve.”
The 25-year-old midfielder’s confidence stems from the positive dynamics within the squad. He praised the relationships between the players, the coaching staff, and the club’s management, noting that the collective spirit has played a significant role in their steady performance this season.
Off the pitch, Onana has found contentment in his life in Genoa. “I enjoy the city; the climate is great, and I often walk by the sea. I
t’s a pleasant place to be,” he said, adding that the environment has allowed him to focus on his personal and professional growth.
However, when asked about his future, Onana remained tight-lipped. Despite growing speculation over his next move, the midfielder has chosen to remain focused on the present.
“I prefer not to talk about it right now,” he explained. “I’m not making any plans about the future; my focus is solely on finishing this season strong with Genoa.”
This statement leaves the door open for several potential outcomes, suggesting that Onana is not yet ready to make any commitments regarding his career beyond this season.
Reflecting on his decision to join Genoa, Onana explained that conversations with club director Ottolini and coach Andriy Shevchenko had convinced him of the club’s ambition and rich history.
“Joining Genoa was about more than just football; it was about believing in the club’s vision and ambition,” he said. “Succeeding here is very important to me, and I’m committed to helping the team achieve its goals.”
As Genoa enters the final stretch of the season, Onana’s contributions will continue to be vital. Whether he decides to stay or pursue other opportunities, one thing is clear: his focus is on ensuring his team finishes as high as possible in Serie A.
