Javier Mascherano is counting on Lionel Messi to lead Inter Miami past Egyptian giants Al Ahly in their Club World Cup opener at the Hard Rock Stadium this Saturday.
Despite injury concerns and a change of venue, the Inter Miami boss remained optimistic ahead of the big match. “We will play the opening of the Club World Cup in a stadium different from our main stadium, but in the end we will play it in our city, and we look forward to receiving the support of our fans in the meeting and come to our support,” Mascherano said.
He confirmed Jordi Alba will miss the match due to injury but expressed hope for his return in the next game.
Still, it’s Messi’s presence that boosts the squad the most. “Lionel Messi made a move when he arrived for Inter Miami, he has a big influence on the players and we have to take advantage of his presence at our side.”
Mascherano also praised Al Ahly, calling them “one of the strongest teams in the continent of Africa.”
