Jamie Carragher issues warning to Yan Diomande
Jamie Carragher cautions Yan Diomande about replacing Mohamed Salah at Liverpool as the Ivorian’s strong national team form draws interest across Europe.
Jamie Carragher has urged caution over the expectations surrounding Yan Diomande as Liverpool push to sign the RB Leipzig winger as Mohamed Salah’s successor.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Reds defender underlined the scale of the challenge awaiting any player who walks into Anfield to fill the Egyptian’s role. “They’ve lost most Mohamed Salah, one of the greatest players we’ve seen in the Premier League in a red shirt, so it’s big shoes to fill,” Carragher said.
Carragher stressed that Diomande would be signed both for what he offers now and for his long‑term potential, with Liverpool eager to add more pace and direct threat to their front line. He noted that the club have already moved in that direction with a recent attacking signing and that Diomande currently looks like their preferred option. “At the moment, he looks like the one Liverpool wants, and if they want him, I would say go and get him,” he added.
Liverpool have already seen an opening £86m bid rejected by Leipzig but are expected to return with an improved offer. Any deal may have to wait, though, as Diomande is focused on the World Cup, where his strong performances for Ivory Coast have helped them reach the knockout rounds and drawn wider interest from European clubs.
