Mohamed Salah has received a major boost in the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, thanks to a big name backing him.
Dutch football icon Jaap Stam, known for his solid defending days with Manchester United and AC Milan, has thrown his support behind the Egyptian star.
While fans and pundits debate whether Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal or PSG’s Ousmane Dembele deserve the honour, Stam believes Salah’s brilliance this season puts him ahead of the pack.
In televised remarks, Stam said: “I think I will give it to Mohamed Salah.”
“As hard as it is for me as a former Manchester United player, Salah deserves the award, even though he is a Liverpool star,” he added.
“He has had a phenomenal season, he is a very important player in the EPL, very few players are able to do what he does, so I think he deserves the award.”
Salah played a key role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, finishing as both the Premier League’s top scorer and playmaker, plus picking up multiple individual honours.
