Simon Adingra rebuilds career at Monaco aiming for Ivory Coast recall
Simon Adingra is using his spell at AS Monaco to revive his career and push for a return to the Ivory Coast national football team, after being absent from the squad since October 2025.
The Ivorian winger, named man of the match in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, had become one of the symbols of his country’s football resurgence.
However, inconsistent club form and limited playing time at Sunderland AFC saw his national team involvement stall, excluding him from this winter’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Adingra’s first half of the season at Sunderland was frustrating. In 15 appearances, he scored once and assisted once, frequently relegated to substitute appearances.
His reduced impact on the pitch contributed to doubts about his readiness for international duty.
A loan move to Monaco has provided a platform for resurgence. In his first start against FC Nantes, Adingra scored twice, showcasing his dribbling, incisive runs, and renewed efficiency.
He has since played against Paris Saint-Germain and RC Lens, as well as making his UEFA Champions League debut, demonstrating his growing influence and confidence.
Monaco’s management has praised Adingra’s focus, work ethic, and commitment, noting his determination to return to top form.
Each appearance now carries added significance as he sets his sights on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Adingra’s loan move also aligns with the national team’s hopes. The Ivorian coaching staff are confident that Monaco’s environment will allow him to rediscover his best form, offering a pathway back to the Elephants’ squad ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
With his recent performances, Adingra is sending a clear message: he is ready to reclaim his place and make an impact on both club and international stages.
