AFCON 2015: HERVÉ RENARD IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH LOCALS, AMID TENSION WITH IVOIRIAN FA
It’s not just Algeria’s Christian Gourcuff preparing locally for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations — Hervé Renard is also busy identifying domestic talent for the Ivorian national team. According to Sport-ivoire.ci, the French coach is currently in South Africa with Côte d’Ivoire’s local squad, who are set to face Bafana Bafana this Sunday in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.
However, off the pitch, things seem less harmonious. In a recent interview with RFI, Renard expressed frustration with the Ivorian Football Federation, hinting at a lack of trust from the leadership. His remarks have fueled speculation of a potential split between the coach and the Elephants, especially after reports emerged that he was approached by Ligue 1 side SC Bastia to succeed Claude Makelele.
Whether Renard stays on to lead the Ivorians at AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea remains to be seen.
