Wilfried Singo has become the target of a wave of racist abuse on social media following a confrontation with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, has sparked an outpouring of support for the AS Monaco defender, including a strong condemnation from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF).
In a statement released by FIF, President Yacine Idriss Diallo, alongside the Executive Committee, condemned the racial abuse aimed at Singo, emphasizing the importance of upholding the fundamental values of equality and anti-discrimination in football.
We support our Commando No. 5 and call for solidarity from all to fight against discrimination and protect the values of football,” the Federation President stated.
Singo’s clash with Donnarumma, which escalated tensions during the match, has unfortunately become a pretext for racist comments online.
The FIF’s response underscores the ongoing challenge of combating racism both on the pitch and beyond.
The Federation also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusion and respect in football, stressing that racism has no place in the sport, whether in stadiums or on social media.
Football must be a vehicle for unity and gathering, and not a place for the expression of hate,” added Yacine Idriss Diallo.
This response by the FIF reflects a broader effort to create a more inclusive and respectful football environment.
The Federation’s commitment to supporting players like Singo, and its resolve to fight against racism, highlights the central role that sports organizations play in addressing such issues in the global football community.
As part of this ongoing initiative, the Ivorian Football Federation continues to work toward fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere in football, underscoring its dedication to eradicating discrimination in all forms.
This latest incident serves as a reminder of the need for unity and vigilance in the ongoing fight for equality within the sport.
