Ivorian striker Karamoko Sankara has officially joined the Austrian Bundesliga, signing a three-season contract with Wolsfberger AC. The 20-year-old, who made a name for himself at ASEC Mimosas, bids farewell to the Ivorian club and embraces the prospect of European football.
Wolsfberger AC confirmed the acquisition of Sankara in an official press release on January 31, 2024.
The Ivorian, standing at 1.75 meters, committed to the Austrian club until 2027, pending a forthcoming medical examination.
The decision to sign Sankara was rooted in a meticulous assessment, according to Wolsfberger AC coach Manfred Schmid.
Impressed by Sankara’s technical prowess, exceptional speed, and alignment with the club’s style of play, Coach Schmid expressed optimism about the young striker’s contribution to the team.
Sankara’s arrival coincides with the departure of his compatriot Mo Bamba, who recently made a move to the French Ligue 1.
Before embarking on his European adventure, Karamoko Sankara took a moment to bid farewell to ASEC Mimosas, expressing gratitude to the club, its supporters, staff, and the entire community.
In a heartfelt message, he stated, “Words cannot truly express the gratitude I have for each of you, each supporter, each member of the club, the staff, and the yellow wall.”
As Sankara steps onto the European football stage with Wolsfberger AC, the Ivorian striker is poised to showcase his talents and make an impact in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The move signifies not only a personal milestone for Sankara but also underscores the increasing global appeal of African football talent in the international arena.
