Ivorian winger Nicolas Pépé sparks transfer Frenzy after Villarreal revival

Nicolas Pépé’s resurgence at Villarreal is rapidly becoming one of the standout stories of the Spanish football season, with the Ivorian forward now firmly back in the transfer spotlight ahead of a potentially busy summer window.

In Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Osasuna, Pépé produced a commanding performance that encapsulated his return to top form.

The 29-year-old not only found the back of the net but also provided two assists, won ten duels, made six tackles, and completed every long pass he attempted.

It was a complete display of attacking power and defensive commitment—his finest outing in a Villarreal shirt since his arrival.

Coming off a similarly impressive showing against Espanyol the previous weekend, Pépé was once again named man of the match, underlining his growing influence on the team.

Head coach Marcelino had hinted at Pépé’s potential impact ahead of the clash, remarking: “He can make the difference.

At this rate, as in the last two games, he will certainly be a threat for us in attack.” That prediction was fulfilled emphatically.

The Ivorian international’s comeback follows a three-month absence due to a muscle injury, but his recent form suggests he has regained the sharpness and confidence that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted wingers.

With two goals and five assists across 23 La Liga appearances this season, Pépé is now playing a pivotal role in Villarreal’s bid for European qualification.

His resurgence has not gone unnoticed by the club’s management. According to Foot Mercato, Villarreal are keen to renegotiate the terms of his current deal, which runs until June 2026.

The club views him as a long-term asset and is eager to secure his services amidst growing external interest.

That interest is already beginning to mount. Several Premier League sides, including Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, are reported to be keeping close tabs on the former Arsenal man.

Both clubs are actively seeking experienced attacking options and view Pépé as a viable reinforcement.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian clubs, which had made overtures last summer, remain keen to lure the Ivorian with substantial financial incentives.

Villarreal’s resolve to hold onto their revitalised winger will likely be tested in the coming weeks, especially with the season reaching its decisive phase.

The upcoming fixture against Girona could prove crucial not just for the club’s European ambitions but also for Pépé’s future trajectory.

A strong finish to the campaign may yet open the door to his long-awaited debut in the UEFA Champions League—an opportunity that has thus far eluded him in his career.

Despite a turbulent stint at Arsenal, where expectations often outweighed delivery, Pépé’s renaissance in Spain suggests he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

Villarreal’s determination to retain him speaks volumes about his current value, both on the pitch and in the transfer market.

As the summer window draws closer, one thing is certain: Nicolas Pépé is no longer a forgotten figure. He is once again a player in demand.
