Christ Wawa has completed a move from Racing Club d’Abidjan to BK Häcken, marking a significant step in the young Ivorian winger’s career as he transitions to Sweden’s top-flight football.

The 18-year-old, who had been expected to join Como in Italy, surprised many by opting for the Swedish Allsvenskan instead. His transfer to BK Häcken follows weeks of speculation and competing offers from other clubs in Europe.

Wawa had also come close to signing for Hammarby IF, with talks reportedly advancing to a final stage. However, negotiations between RC Abidjan and the Swedish vice-champions collapsed at the last minute.

According to reports from local sources, the Ivorian club’s leadership ultimately chose to back BK Häcken’s proposal, viewing it as a more promising path for the player’s growth.

The move caps off a breakthrough year for Wawa, who gained international attention during his impressive performances at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

His pace, technical ability, and composure in the final third have caught the eye of scouts across the continent, and BK Häcken moved swiftly to secure his signature ahead of rival suitors.

Wawa’s departure marks the end of his time with RC Abidjan, the club where he developed as a youth and rose through the ranks. The Ivorian side has become known in recent years for nurturing talent and facilitating their progression to European football, and Wawa’s transfer follows a well-established tradition.

For the young winger, the move to Sweden represents both a challenge and an opportunity. BK Häcken, a consistent force in Swedish football, offers Wawa the chance to gain first-team experience in a competitive league, with the added exposure of European club competitions on the horizon.

The club’s reputation for developing young players likely played a key role in the final decision.

While the details of the contract have not been made public, the move is seen as a calculated decision to allow Wawa to acclimate to European football in an environment that values youth development and tactical discipline.

His integration into the squad is expected to begin immediately as Häcken looks to strengthen its attacking options for the remainder of the season.

As Wawa begins this new chapter in his career, expectations are high for the Ivorian prospect to make his mark in the Allsvenskan and potentially position himself for further moves within Europe in the years ahead.

His journey from RC Abidjan to the Swedish elite reflects both his ambition and the growing reputation of Ivorian football exports.
