Ivory Coast international Jean-Philippe Gbamin are close to joining French outfit FC Metz in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old is set to complete a move to the Ligue 2 club after successfully completing his mandatory medical.
Gbamin began his career at RC Lens before moving to FSV Mainz 05 in July 2016. After three seasons in Germany, he joined Premier League side Everton. He struggled for game time in England, making only eight appearances for the club.
After successive loan spells at CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor, he returned to France and joined Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque.
He then signed for Ligue 1 club FC Nantes in August 2024 on a free transfer. Having made only 15 appearances, Gbamin joined FC Zürich on another free transfer in February 2025. After regaining form and regular football in Switzerland, his contract expired this summer, allowing him to join Metz.
Gbamin represented France at youth level but switched his international allegiance to Ivory Coast in 2017. He has made 17 appearances for the national team and played a key role in their successful Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
