Jean-Eudes Aholou has officially ended his stint with Angers SCO after just one season, following the mutual termination of his contract with the Ligue 1 club.
The 31-year-old Ivorian midfielder, who joined Angers on a free transfer from Strasbourg last summer, had initially signed a deal running until June 2026.
However, on Tuesday, the club confirmed his early departure in a statement acknowledging both his contributions and professionalism during his brief time in Maine-et-Loire.
Aholou made 26 starts in Ligue 1 under manager Alexandre Dujeux during the 2024–25 season, contributing two goals and playing a key role in the team’s midfield.
Despite his regular presence in the starting XI and a campaign that was individually regarded as solid, the club and player have chosen to bring the partnership to a close.
In its official release, Angers expressed appreciation for Aholou’s “professionalism, commitment and spirit” throughout the season, and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.
The club did not provide specific reasons for the decision, though all indications suggest that the separation was amicable.
“The club thanks Jean-Eudes Aholou for his time in the Black and White jersey,” the statement read. “We wish him all the best for the future.”
Aholou’s departure comes at a time when Angers are undergoing significant changes on and off the pitch, as they look to rebuild and realign their squad for the coming season.
Though the midfielder’s exit may raise questions, it is not uncommon for clubs and players to reassess contractual arrangements when strategic or personal circumstances shift.
For Aholou, this marks the end of a short but respectable spell with the club. A seasoned campaigner in French football, he previously played for Strasbourg—where he first made a name for himself—as well as Monaco and Saint-Étienne.
Known for his strength, composure, and ability to dictate play from deep, he brought a steadying influence to Angers’ midfield during a season of fluctuating fortunes.
Now a free agent, the Ivorian international is available to sign with a new club outside of the traditional transfer window.
With his experience and versatility, he is expected to attract interest from both Ligue 1 and international sides seeking a reliable presence in central midfield.
Despite the brevity of his time at Angers, Aholou leaves with the respect of the coaching staff and supporters, having consistently delivered dependable performances.
While he did not find the net often, his ability to break up play, maintain possession, and support both defensive and attacking phases was evident throughout the campaign.
The next destination for the former Monaco player remains to be seen, but with several years of top-flight experience and a clean bill of fitness, Aholou is likely to be an attractive option on the market.
As Angers look ahead to a new chapter, the club bids farewell to one of its most consistent performers of the past year—while Jean-Eudes Aholou begins a fresh journey in his well-travelled professional career.
