Éric Bailly is attracting interest from Espanyol Barcelona as his contract with Villarreal nears its end. The 31-year-old Ivorian international, who began his professional career at Espanyol, could make a return to the club where it all started.
After leaving Manchester United in 2022, Bailly has played in several leagues including England, France, and Turkey.
He joined Villarreal last year but had a mixed season, and now looks set for a new challenge.
Espanyol, recently promoted back to La Liga, are looking to strengthen their defence. Bailly’s experience in top-level football and his familiarity with Spanish football make him an appealing option.
Having previously played for Villarreal and Espanyol, he knows the league well and could bring stability to the Catalan side’s backline.
Although Espanyol are keen, they are not the only ones interested. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are also monitoring the situation and could make offers.
However, sources close to Bailly say the player is focused on continuing his career in Europe for now.
With 50 international caps for Ivory Coast and a solid track record, Bailly still has plenty to offer.
His current market value is around €2 million, and he earns about €3.12 million per year in Spain.
The summer transfer window could mark a fresh start for Bailly, whether back in Barcelona or elsewhere in Europe.
