I’ve been misinterpreted – Broski coach Mohammed Hamed clarifies comment on Zamalek
Head coach of Broski Mohammed Hamed has swiftly downplays claims of disrespecting Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek.
The White Castle’s pre-season preparations took an unexpected twist following a 3-1 friendly victory over Broksi FC, as comments from Mohamed Hamed sparked debate.
The match, held on Friday, saw the club test their new recruits, including standout Abdel Hamid Maali, who found the net. Despite the win, Hamed’s post-match remarks about the squad’s lack of cohesion quickly made headlines and drew backlash from Zamalek supporters.
However, Hamed has denied disrespecting Zamalek, saying he was misquoted.
“Zamalek is a great club, and no one can underestimate it because it is the best representative of Egyptian football. Al-Ahly and Zamalek are number one in Egypt.”
“My statements were misinterpreted. I told the journalist that it was still too early to judge the new players, but I was surprised by a sharp attack from Zamalek TV. I am a Zamalek fan and my entire family is, and perhaps my statement came out of my sadness over the state of Zamalek.”
He added, “Look at Al Ahly’s signings compared to Zamalek’s. But friendly matches are not a measure, and we still need more time. There is a distinguished group of players at Zamalek, but some of those who left were better than the current ones.”
“Mustafa Shalaby, the former Zamalek player, is technically superior to current players in his position. During the friendly match, I didn’t see a player who could match Shalaby. He possesses tremendous abilities”
